Held on Saturday, 22 August 2026, the festival brought together members of the Igbo community, families, friends, and guests for a day filled with culture, entertainment, food, music, dance, and laughter. It was truly a celebration of who we are and the rich heritage we carry with us, even while living far from home.
A Celebration of Culture and Heritage
From the moment guests arrived, the colorful atmosphere was impossible to miss. The event beautifully showcased the richness of Igbo traditions, with traditional attire, cultural performances, music, dance, and displays that brought the spirit of home to Finland.
One of the highlights of the day was the impressive masquerade display. The masquerades added excitement and energy to the celebration, entertaining guests and reminding everyone of the deep cultural traditions passed down through generations.
The women of the community also brought a special touch to the occasion as they proudly danced together in their matching, colorful traditional outfits. Their coordinated appearance and energetic dancing created a beautiful spectacle and reflected the unity and strength of the Igbo women.
A Feast of Igbo Flavours
Of course, no Igbo celebration would be complete without plenty of food and drinks!
Guests were treated to an impressive variety of traditional Igbo dishes and delicacies. From familiar favourites to special homemade dishes, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The abundance of food created another opportunity for people to sit together, share, laugh, and enjoy the warmth of community.
There was also plenty of refreshing drinks to keep everyone going throughout the celebration. The combination of great food, music, dancing, and good company made the festival feel like a little piece of Igboland right here in Finland.
Fun, Music, Dance and Community Spirit
The festival was more than just a cultural display; it was an opportunity for people to connect. Families and friends came together, old acquaintances reunited, and new friendships were made.
The music and dancing kept the atmosphere lively, with guests joining in and celebrating together. The joy and excitement throughout the venue showed just how powerful cultural events can be in bringing people together.
For the younger generation, the festival also provided an opportunity to experience Igbo traditions and learn more about the culture of their parents and grandparents.
The Exciting Raffle Draw
And then came one of the most anticipated moments of the day — the raffle draw!
Excitement filled the venue as everyone waited to see who would take home the grand prize. The winning ticket was eventually drawn, and one lucky guest walked away with an incredible prize: a ticket to Nigeria!
The announcement brought cheers and excitement, providing a memorable finale to an already fantastic day.
