This year’s Yoruba Day in Finland was more than just an event; it was a beautiful reminder of who we are and how far our culture can travel with us. Held on 9 August 2025 at Servin Mökki, Jämeräntaival 4, Espoo, Finland, the event was a resounding success, filled with vibrant performances, rich cultural displays, and a strong sense of community. The gathering brought together Yoruba people and friends of the community for an afternoon filled with color, laughter, music, and delicious traditional food.

From the very beginning, the energy was warm and welcoming. Children ran around joyfully, young people showcased their talents, and elders proudly shared wisdom and stories. Seeing all generations in one place, speaking Yoruba, dancing to familiar rhythms, and dressing in elegant traditional attire, felt like a true homecoming.

The day was made possible by the commitment of many hands. Volunteers worked behind the scenes to ensure everything flowed smoothly, while invited guests added their voices of encouragement. The community came out in large numbers, filling the room with excitement and togetherness. Every smile, every cheer, and every dance step showed that Yoruba culture continues to flourish, even here in Finland.

One of the highlights of the day was the food. Guests enjoyed a variety of traditional Yoruba dishes and drinks, which not only filled stomachs but also sparked conversations and memories of home. It was a beautiful way to bring people closer; because, as we say, food is also culture.

To everyone who contributed whether by showing up, volunteering, donating, or simply sharing words of encouragement, thank you very much. Yoruba Day reminds us that our traditions are alive, our unity is strong, and our future is bright.
